Jericho's WWA/GPW/GCW History:

Jericho started up in the early days of the fed, before GCW and before GPW, in the days of the World Wrestling Alliance. Despite the fact that there was endless amounts of problems with the WWA, Jericho still decided to stick it out with the company. Over about a one year span, Jericho accumulated 5 Junior Heavyweight title reigns, and near the end of WWA's run, won the WWA Canadian title from Kurt Angle, after Kurt won the title, and then went on to badmouth Canada excessively. That is when Jericho came in to defend his home country and in the process took the title. However, soon after that, everything changed, as the era of WWA came to an end and the GPW was born, and it looked to only be a good thing for Jericho.

In the early days of GPW, Chris Jericho was a part of the Dangerous Alliance alongside many other top superstars such as Stone Cold Steve Austin. However, while some of his fellow stablemates road high in the spotlight, Jericho had still yet to make any big waves. Jericho's first GPW success came as new champions were being crowned for the company after the formation of GPW, and Jericho became the first GPW Junior Heavyweight Champion, a title he was obviously very familiar with. However, after some time it seemed Jericho was tired of being left in the shadows of others, as he left the Dangerous Alliance and at a time when GPW split into three divisions, Jericho joined up with the new group of the Militia to help the fight against the two long-lasting superpowers of his former stable the Dangerous Alliance, as well as The Corporate Ministry. It was about this time that Chris Jericho won the United States title for the first time.

That 3-way war soon died down, and those stables mostly went by the wayside, and Jericho decided it was time for him to push himself as far as he could. Jericho went on to get himself involved in a GPW World title match that was scheduled between the reigning champion Triple H, and the challenger and King of the Ring winner, Chris Benoit. Benoit was the first in a GPW/GCW tradition for the King of the Ring winner to be given a World title shot, but Jericho somehow managed to get himself involved in there too. However, before Jericho could even make his way to the ring, The Rock interfered and took Jericho out of the equation, and on that night Benoit went on to beat Triple H for the World Championship. But Jericho wasn't about to let that stop him, as he continued to go after Benoit, and about one month later, on a Tuesday-night special, Chris Jericho was given a title shot against Benoit. Jericho took full advantage of this situation, in the end, went on to become GPW World Heavyweight Champion, and thus begun what is probably the most famous feud in GPW history.

From that point on, the feud between Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit became a classic, as the two fought in an endless number of battles, which each man scoring key victories back and forth over the other. However, at the next pay-per-view event, Chris Benoit was able to recapture the title from Jericho in a two-out-of-three falls matchup and then retain it the following month in a ladder match. However, despite Benoit's win and the two men's seeming hatred for each other, over the months the two had apparently developed a respect for each other. And so when the ladder match was said and done, Jericho actually saved Benoit from an attempted attack by Goldenboy Gene Banton, and left GPW fans confused, as the show ended with an embrace between Jericho and Benoit. It was then that the Canadian Alliance was born.

The Canadian Alliance was without a doubt one of the most powerful stables in GPW history. Lead by former Chief Executive Officer and then becoming "Canadian" Executive Officer, Craig Suchodolski was the political power behind the group that Jericho and Benoit lead at the helm, and also enlisted the services of fellow Canadian's Bret Hart, Edge, Christian, The Assassin and US turncoat Kurt Angle. The group reigned supreme, with Jericho going on to capture the United States title for the second time, and subsequently renamed it to the Canadian title. However, while the group seemed strong, a huge War Games match at Gang Rulz changed everything. A 5-on-5 match against the GCW All Stars team of Steve Austin, Jordan Williams, Too Cool and Rikishi put the group in their place, as they scored the win over the Canadian Alliance and when later that same night, Benoit lost the World title, the Canadian Alliance was virtually no more.

However, Jericho wasn't about to let that stop him. Jericho was ready to go on his own, but apparently Jericho is just attracted to the thought of strength in numbers. It was only about a month later that Jericho ended up being recruited for the GPW's Reincarnation of the Four Horsemen which also featured Chris Benoit, Triple H and Kurt Angle. Jericho and Benoit then went on to win the Tag Team titles together, using the team name of their old stable "The Canadian Alliance". The two had a good run as champions, but eventually lost the titles to Jordan Williams and The Rock.

And within a short time, Jericho was once again on his own. It was this point that Jericho's GPW career slowed down a bit. Jericho began to take things slow, and not get too deeply involved in anything, and didn't even pursue any gold in the company. That was until one day and spark was relit in him, and a few months later Chris Jericho captured one of the few titles he had yet to hold, the GPW Intercontinental Champion, from the very same person he won his first US title, Jordan Williams. This new fire that seemed to be lit in Jericho seemed to burn strong, as Jericho went through all challengers and held on to that belt to become the very last GPW Intercontinental Champion.

Because of Jericho being the last and undefeated Intercontinental Champion, upon the formation of GCW, after the GPW/ASFW merge, Jericho was automatically booked to compete against ASFW's North American Champion, Amber Diamond, to determine the first ever GCW National Champion. Jericho emerged victorious as the first National Champion, and looked to continue the strong run he began at the end of his GPW career. After a few months of reigning as National Champion, Jericho lost the title to Logan Kaine, and strangely enough opted not to exercise his right for a title rematch. Instead, Jericho decided to team up with former Canadian Alliance stablemate Kurt Angle, to form the Submission Commission. The two quickly tore through the tag ranks, and went on to win the GCW Tag Team Championships and held them until GCW's first PPV, where the two lost it to the then-undefeated team of Double Impact.

After the loss, Kurt decided he no longer was interested in teaming up and was looking forward to a singles run, but Jericho didn't feel the same. Jericho decided he wanted to exercise his right for a tag title rematch, and worked it out so that he would be allowed to pick a new partner for the title rematch of the Submission Commission. So Jericho gave a call to one of his old friends and partners, a man who had seemingly retired from GCW some months earlier, but did in fact come back to once again team with Chris Jericho. Chris Benoit came back to reform the Canadian Alliance. After a few weeks of teaming up together, the two were given their title shot against Double Impact, and went on to win the match and take the titles and give the team of Double Impact their first and only loss. However, it was never argued that Jericho and Benoit were the perfect example of the phrase "good friends, better enemies" as the two had in the past gone from opponents to teammates and back again, and in this case, it caused infighting in their team and the two split up and the titles were vacated.

As a change of pace, GCW decided to not only make a tournament for the tag titles, but rather make it a Lethal Lottery Tag Team Title tournament, meaning that the teams were randomly picked. Jericho's name was placed in the lottery, and in the end he was picked out to be in the tournament, and was randomly partnered up with Golden Glenn. For two men that had never before really interacted, the two clicked as a team rather well and rather quickly. The two both seemed to follow their own twisted logic that they knew they were better than everyone else, but didn't really like to talk about it, and thus Team Modesty was born. Jericho and Glenn tore through the tournament, and made it all the way to the finals of the tournament, where they faced off against Christian and "Too Sexy" James Paige. However, Glenn and Jericho came up on the short end of the stick, as they lost the match and left without the tag team titles. But unlike the other teams in the tournament, Jericho and Glenn felt comfortable with each other, and agreed to continue teaming up together. After going on to win a few more matches, they were eventually built up to the point of getting one more chance at taking on Christian and Paige, who were still reigning as tag team champions. The two went on to face off in a rematch, and this time Team Modesty came out on top, and Jericho now became a 3-time Tag Champion with as many partners. The team was definitely successful, and went on to take part in one of the most insane matches in GCW history, the Triple Threat Tag Team Title TLC match at King of the Ring involving Positively Sexy (Christian & Paige) and the Mobley Congregation. Team Modesty managed to some how come out of that match victorious, and reigned on as champions for some more time, until eventually losing the titles to The Outsiders.

At that point, after about a full year of Jericho being involved with various teams, he decided it was time to be on his own again. Some months prior to that, Jericho had joined the newest incarnation of The Corporation, but due to his involvement in Team Modesty at the time and the fact that Glenn was a member of a Corporate rival, Premiere Enterprises, Jericho wasn't as involved as he would have liked. So Jericho tried to make up for that fact, and so when GCW's attempted roster split took place, Jericho put himself on the line to try and help The Corporation, but in the end his plan failed, and it caused him to be forced to go to the WWA side of the split, while the rest of The Corporation was drafted to GPW. But this split from The Corporation may have very well been a blessing in disguise. It was shortly after that the GCW took a hiatus so that the staff could work some things out, and when GCW returned, it was reborn. The bosses reconciled their differences, and decided one whole GCW was better than a split one, and so the rosters were reformed. Furthermore, it was announced on the first show back for GCW, that one week from then, as a way to help the rebirth of GCW, every title would be on the line. In the main event of that first show back, Chris Jericho and reigning GCW Champion Kurt Angle faced off in a 2-out-of-3 falls matchup, that Jericho picked up the win in. With a big win like that, Jericho was then entered into the World title match the following week, which he was not originally scheduled to be in.

One week later, Jericho stepped into the ring with GCW Champion Kurt Angle and two other former GCW Champion's in Damien Diamond and "Hot Stuff" Mark Ward in a Fatal Fourway for the GCW Championship. With Jericho being the only man in the match to not yet hold the GCW title, his odds didn't look so good. However, Jericho wrestled the match smart, and kept himself out of too much trouble as "Hot Stuff" Mark Ward was the first man eliminated, getting pinned by Damien Diamond. With that big elimination for Damien, he was looking to be possibly on his way to winning it, but that all changed when Angle pulled out a surprise Angle Slam and got the pin over Damien to eliminate him, and suddenly, Jericho was left as part of the last two against the reigning champion Kurt Angle. The two fought hard, and after battling off some Corporate interference that came due to anger over Damien's elimination, Jericho then took advantage of the situation and went on to pick up the win over Kurt Angle, and finally capture the GCW World Heavyweight Championship.

Jericho went on to defend the title against "Hot Stuff" Mark Ward successfully in a singles match, and at the next PPV once again beat both Damien Diamond and Kurt Angle in a triple threat match. Jericho was riding high, but then he got real worried when something a bit unexpected happened. A new face entered the World title scene, and having never faced him before, Jericho didn't like it. Rix Usher won a match for the #1 Contention and the two would be facing off at the next PPV. Furthermore, Rix had been reigning as Television Champion for an extremely long time, and fought off challenger after challenger, and Jericho was not liking what he saw. However, Jericho attempted to get into the head of Rix, and even got him to put his Television title on the line as well. As the days counted down, Jericho did all he could to make sure that he knew exactly what he was getting into. Highway to Hell IV came and Rix Usher nearly became GCW Champion, but somehow Jericho pulled it off in the end to retain his title, and in the process also captured the GCW Television Champion making him the first ever GCW Grand Slam Champion.

However, shortly after GCW Chairman Shawn Michaels decided that Jericho was not proving himself worthy of being both World and Television Champion, and gave Jericho one last chance to prove himself. Jericho decided to do so by defending his TV title in a triple threat match....... against Morpheus and Jackass. This little move didn't exactly make HBK happy, and as a result, Jericho was stripped of the TV title and a tournament was to be held for the vacant title. Meanwhile, Jericho continue to reign on as World Champion and at around this time, rejoin his old friends in The Corporation after Benoit worked hard to get the reigning World Champion back into the group. At the following pay-per-view, Wrestle War 2003, Jericho did not actually end up defending his title due to the lack of valid contenders for his title. However, Jericho was still a part of the shows main event as he teamed with Coroporate stablemate The Rock to face Jordan Williams and the returning Vincent Young. Jericho and Rock pulled off the win after a little bit of help from GCW Commissioner Chris Benoit. At GCW's next pay-per-view event, King of the Ring, Jordan Williams looked to take Jericho on solo, as the two men head towards King of the Ring's main event to face off for Jericho's World Heavyweight Championship. However, that wasn't all that was on the line, as the stipulations read that if Jordan was unable to win the Championship, he would be forced to retire from GCW. With everyone betting against him and the odds seeming to favor Jordan, Jericho still pulled out the win and forced Jordan into retirement, before Jordan eventually made his return as the newly appointed Chairman of GCW.

With Jericho enjoying more success than he has seemingly in his entire career it seems that now, more than ever before, Jericho has everyone gunning for him. It seems as if he has to constantly be looking behind him, and worrying about what's next. All that's left to see is, how much longer will Jericho be successful in his attempts to fend off challengers, as he desperately tries to hold on to his GCW Championship. And now, with none other than Adam Rich coming out of the King of the Ring PPV as the newly crowned 2003 King of the Ring, he looks to defend his title against one of the most talented superstars in the company. Can Jericho once again beat the odds and keep his title, doing what only two other men have been able to do in GCW history and defeat Adam Rich, or will Jericho's reign finally come to an end?
